Riding the Rapids

Time to get drenched! Was I ready? I was born ready. To the rapids I go!!! Ok, so I’m going to be completely honest here and say that, before this, I had never touched rapids. Sad, right? Well, we were here and I couldn’t turn back now.

Our group got our raft and we went through some safety instructions (I was probably going to need these.) After the drill, we got into our boat, and off we went, straight into the river of doom. Our first rapid was a a level 1, thank goodness! I wasn’t so lucky the next time. “Level 3!” our guide yelled. Oh my, this was getting real now. Right in front of me, I see rocks, giant dips, and a narrow river. “Paddle left and right…” our guide instructed. We made it through. Yee haw! This was fun, in a very intense manner.

One..
Two…
BOOM!!!

As you can see, I wasn’t kidding when I said we got DRENCHED. Next rapid: Level 3. Oh how fun. We get to go through this again. This time, the raft wasn’t so forgiving. Oh no…we were about an inch from the bank (I am not talking about the kind of bank with money, but I’m scared of those too. Just kidding!) Anyway, we survived this rapid too.

That is a smile out of fear. Just kidding!

The next few rapids were level 1. Yay, I needed a break. And then…Level 3 ahead! Thankfully, this was the last level 3 rapid. Bad news, the guide only meant for that half of the river. Oh sweet, sweet food! They served amazing pineapple and watermelon. Guys, this pineapple was the best thing I have tasted in my entire life! Apparently, they grew the fruit themselves. Whatever they did, it was great. Thirty minutes later, back to the river.

At least it was only a level 2 rapid. We cruised for ten minutes or so and…Level 3! Ok, so this was really the last level 3. The rest of the ride, it was only 1s and 2s. During the last half of the ride, we got to swim through the rapids. Oh yeah, THIS was amazing! I can’t believe they didn’t pre-heat the river for us though. It was so cold.

It’s going DOWN for real!

Oops, I forgot to tell you that throughout the tour, we stood up on the boat! Most of the time, we just sat on the sides, but at certain times, we were allowed to stand!

At the end, we got showers. Yuck! I was glad to have all of that mud come off of me. I was beat, so we crashed at the hotel. To end this very astonishing story, WE SURVIVED THE SUPERSTORM!
